The Youth Leadership Committee of Leadership LINKS, Inc. raised money, budgeted and purchased essential supplies for preventing COVID-19 to deliver to staff and students at Ferndale Middle School as their LINKS Service Opportunity (LSO) this year. One of the responsibilities of the YLC is to report to the Board of Directors the completion of one LINKS Service Opportunity (LSO) or service project to serve the local community.
The service project was led by the YLC which included six girls from three states: Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. These committee officers served as the organization’s youth leaders to the public, and the voices of the youth delegation within the organization. Officers include: Nilah Williamson (President) - MD, Jenesis Bannarbie (Vice President) - VA, Ashley Robinson (Marketing Officer) - NC, Lana Stinson (Treasurer) -NC, Alanna Thornton (Network Relations Officer) - NC and Kristen Leake (Secretary) - NC. Miss Alanna Thornton, an 11th grade student from West Guilford High School in Greensboro, NC, served as the Network Relations Officer. As the local representative of the YLC, she worked directly with the school’s secretary, Ms. Tonya Caudle, to deliver the COVID 19 supplies.
For the supply delivery, Miss Alanna Thornton was accompanied by fellow peer and Leadership LINKS Mentoring Program participant, Miss Lille Ratchford, a 9th grade student at Northwest Guilfrod High School; Mr. Craig Ratchford, a member of the nonprofit’s Parent Advisory Council; and Mr. Paul Stolwyk, a member of the Board of Directors. All the nonprofit’s team members were thrilled to present nearly $200 worth of supplies including sanitizer, wipes, over 400 face masks, and tissue boxes to the school. Part of Leadership LINKS, Inc. mission is “education,” so the organization is excited to know that the items donated will help the staff prepare for the safe return and education of students this fall.
Ms. Caudle, along with several members of Ferndale Middle School’s mentoring program, Diamonds and Pearls, were on hand to receive the supplies. In addition to providing this service to the community, this opportunity allowed Leadership LINKS, Inc. to practice its core value of Network, particularly by partnering with schools and like-minded individuals and organizations.
Job Well Done Youth Leadership Committee!
