Be a Mentor
Leadership LINKS exists to educate and equip Black girls and young women to become leaders who are committed to using their gifts for the greater good of humanity. We believe in the potential of girls to be the change makers of tomorrow, when we love and mentor them today.
Mentoring Across Generations
We believe in the power of long-term investment in order to transform lives, and this is only possible through the contribution and commitment of our mentors – a multiethnic, intergenerational group of men and women who share their wisdom and life experience with our girls and young women. Mentoring is essential to helping our young Leaders grow; at the same time, our mentors find they benefit as well through the fulfillment of connecting with youth during their formative years and sharing their gifts for greater good.
Some of our mentors meet regularly with one or more girls; others participate in group mentoring or teach or speak about specific topics. Learn more about our Girls and Young Women’s Programs.
If this sounds inspiring to you, we would love to add you to our Leadership LINKS Network!
What Are We Looking For In A Mentor?
Since we prepare leaders for the WORKPLACE, we are looking for mentors with proven leadership skills and expertise in their career fields;
Our CHRISTIAN FAITH informs our practices and spiritual development of our girls and young women, so mentors must affirm and honor the faith teachings as presented in our Statement of Faith;
Mentors must be curious and prepared to be challenged by our program participants and mentoring team as well as eager to learn from other leaders about techniques to address the historical and social challenges impact our participants;
LOVE and SERVICE are core values; therefore, we are looking for mentors who embody love and grace, who desire to serve girls or young women, and who are able to actively engage in the program’s events or continue mentoring relationships, formally or informally, for years.
Ready to Get Involved?
Apply to be a mentor by completing the mentor application. Once approved, mentors complete training [define this] to equip them with knowledge about the organization and its approach, the girls we serve, and best practices to ensure our participants’ safety and delivery of high quality programming.
Not sure if you know how to be an effective mentor?
Our training provides a strong foundation, and other mentors and leaders provide continuous support and coaching. We also recommend reading Mentor for Life: Finding Purpose through Intentional Discipleship, authored by our visionary founder, Dr. Natasha Sistrunk Robinson.
